Seasonal Affective Depression (SAD)

Now there is a pharmaceutical-free way to alleviate your SAD symptoms

The DAVID Delight Plus is a portable hand-held device which utilizes a cutting edge, non-invasive, drug-free approach to mental alertness. This breakthrough technology is called Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE). The Delight Plus integrates the principles of audio/visual brainwave stimulation to help combat the "blues".

Each year, 6% of northern populations are affected with Seasonal Affective Depression (SAD) and another 14% have a milder form of SAD, called the "winter blues". The most common symptoms are depression, anxiety, extreme fatigue, hypersomnia, carbohydrate cravings, and weight gain. The first controlled study using light therapy to treat SAD was published in 1984. SAD was officially accepted as a clinical malady in 1987 by the American Psychiatric Association and described in its then-current diagnostic manual, the DSM-III-R.

AVE has shown to help in reducing SAD a great deal. Aside from taking long vacations in Mexico or using a SAD light for long periods of time, there has been no great solution for treating SAD. There are two issues with SAD:

1. A person with SAD has elevated levels of melatonin which makes the person feel groggy and tired, low on energy, and craving carbs to try and increase energy.
2. The brain is flooded with long alpha spindles, typically 9 - 10 Hz for 10 - 30 seconds (typical alpha spindles are 1 - 2 seconds long), which leaves them fuzzy-headed and struggling to feel alert.

AVE successfully treats SAD by:
• Reducing day-time levels of melatonin (Shealy, 1989) by 6%.
• By inhibiting the half-frequency of stimulation (Collura and Siever). This means that by stimulating with 18 - 20 Hz, we suppress the notorious 9 - 10 Hz alpha spindles. The person becomes alert, feels good, and quits craving carbs.

The Delight Plus features six categories of sessions:  Energize, Meditate, Brain Booster, Sleep, and Feeling Better (5 sessions in each of these 5 categories), and User-Defined (three Gamma sessions and two blank sessions for you to design your own sessions with the DAVID Session Editor). It also includes the standard five auto-playing Sound Sync sessions.

The Delight Plus sessions also include our proprietary randomization process, which helps encourage dissociation and enhance the entrainment process.
